Dental Veneers

Dental veneers are basically a thin layer of porcelain or composite resin attached to the front of your teeth. These facings that are bonded to the front of your teeth can really help overcome serious problems with the colour or shape of your teeth. They’re one of the many dental procedures we offer at our Bayside dental clinic.

Veneers are a great treatment option for many candidates, but as always the best path forward is to sit down with your Bayside dentist for a chat. We can then decide the cosmetic dental treatment that works best for you. Veneers often require some removal of the existing tooth, so for some people a more conservative treatment option may be better.

How Do Dental Veneers Work?

Dental Veneers are a custom designed porcelain or composite resin shell that is attached to the front of your teeth to improve their appearance. In many cases this cosmetic dental procedure could be the ideal path to rejuvenating your smile. As well as being able to cover up broken, chipped or missing teeth, dental veneers can also hide discoloured or blemished teeth. If you have dental problems that give you insecurities about your smile, veneers could be the answer.

You can have a veneer on just one tooth, for example if it was damaged in an accident, or you can have multiple tooth veneers that cover a larger area in your mouth. All patients are different, and it simply depends on your needs and budget.

Bear in mind that with veneers, in most cases a small amount of tooth removal is required. The tooth surface needs to be reshaped in order for the veneer to be added to it. For this reason we often suggest going with a more conservative procedure, such as dental bonding or teeth whitening if at all applicable.

Our Bayside family dentistry is committed to embarking on the treatment plan that’s best for you, whether that be dental veneers or another procedure we offer.

How Long Do Dental Veneers Last?

While veneers are a permanent dental structure attached to your teeth, they won’t last forever. They’ll need to be replaced at some point, and their lifespan depends on a number of factors. You can usually expect them to last between 7 and 15 years, with good oral hygiene practices lengthening this time.

Veneers require good oral hygiene to keep them in good condition.  Avoiding snapping hard foods off your front teeth will minimise the risk of chipping the edges and sometimes even a night guard.  We recommend the following dental hygiene practices be incorporated into your routine or mouth care:

  • Brush your teeth  twice daily;
  • Clean between your teeth every day;
  • Visit your Bayside family dental practice for regular checkups;
  • We may also recommend you avoid food and drinks that could stain your teeth.

Our Bayside family dental clinic has an array of high tech dental equipment to ensure we only provide the best quality dental services. Whatever procedure we recommend, you can rest assured it will be performed to the highest of dental standards.
